Why do we Thank People?
This blog frequently covers the idea of how to honor people but another and related topic is how to thank people. I want to cover thanking as well because this is one of the important ways to use To Honor Them. To introduce this topic I need to take a step back and talk about WHY we should thank people.
Why do we Thank People:
Honoring a teacher, thanking a parent, recognizing a great boss, or giving tribute to a veteran all have one thing in common: the desire to thank and honor people comes from within. One of the reasons we invested in funding this site was we saw a universal need in the heart of mankind to take the warm, thankful, and even sentimental thoughts we have about one another - and do something to express them.
Gratitude is a virtue that, when you express it, somehow it warms your heart and improves how you perceive things. When you share gratitude and thank someone you invest in that person's future while recognizing their past. You call-out of them the best and highest things and validate them. You encourage them to repeat positive behaviors. When you thank people you bring encouragement and a measure of healing to their soul. You create a change in the atmosphere not only between you and that person but for others who observe your expression of gratitude. For example did you know To Honor Them is read by people due to the positive honor stories people just like you have written?
We also thank people because we know how it feels when we are thanked and honored. You will hear people sometimes talk about how they do not feel appreciated-- all of us have heard that. This so clearly shows there really is an inner need to be thanked, appreciated, and honored. Why don't you take a few minutes to recognize and thank someone? Send them a handwritten letter or thank you card- this is such a lost art! Certainly it's good to simply tell people thank you for what they have done but there is something so much more lasting and serious about the written word. As we have said, To Honor Them is purpose- built to help you share thanks in an easy, written way. The nice thing about using this site is its a creative way to thank or honor someone.
