Otto Berger's Honor Story
My Grandpa served in 3 Wars. WW11, Korean and Vietnam!!! He was the most amazing and brave man I ever knew! He was from Austria and spoke German... so he was the official interperter for the US Army during the War! Once he was in the mansion Hitler lived in so he could translate and break German code for the US! Wow! He had so many amazing stories that I never knew about until he passed away. He didn't like to talk about them too often because it brought back so much hurt and pain that he experienced during the Wars and all the dear friends he lost. He never forgot any of them... and always kept each and every one near and dear to his heart. He was so proud of everyone and always said he was no better then anyone else and wondered why the good Lord let him live when so many lost thier lives. This always brought tears to his eyes when saying it, so I know it came from deep within his heart and he meant every word. He was so proud of his Country and the American Flag that he fought for. He was brave, strong, loved the good Lord above all things and was TOTALLY AMAZING!! I LOVE HIM... THEN, NOW AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He will always be the inspiration of my life!
How Otto made a difference in my life
He has made me the independent and strong person that I am today with my family! I always think of him and how strong he was and helps me to keep going on when the times get tough.
A special memory I have about Otto
He never complained about ANYTHING. He was always so appreciative of every little thing that he had... and was amazed at how this world was constantley changing and how expensive things were getting. He always taught me to appreciate and respect everything and never take anything for granted because you might wake up one day and it could be gone!
How Otto has inspired me
His courage, his strength, his disipline, and the love in his heart for his Country, family, man kind and above all the good Lord!!
